Hiking - Walking: The Dip to Felixstowe Ferry Wind Direction: SE Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: o Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: Distance Covered: 3 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Thursday 11th February - walk **** -The Dip to Felixstowe Ferry – Sunny
periods with a cold onshore breeze.
After four days when we had some snow there was none here today in
Felixstowe, temperatures overnight were forecast to drop to minus 10 but
only made it to -2.5 here on the coast still pretty cold! After yesterdays
quick walk at Felixstowe Ferry in brilliant sunshine Mag and I were keen to
take a longer walk there today. With sunny periods from the off we spent
the morning at home, then after lunch we drove to our windsurfing spot at
The Dip to park. We then set off along the prom which was pretty icy in
places so you had to take care and it is tiring walking on the slippy
stuff! It was not as sunny as yesterday with more cloud and the wind had
turned dead onshore being very chilly. It was still lovely to walk past the
snow-covered golf course with Bawdsey Manor ahead. We had glimpse of
sunshine as we approached The Ferry along the River Deben. We meet a lady
who said she had spotted a seal she thought was in some trouble but we did
not see it. Through the boat yard having a chat to one of the house boat
owners who had already fallen on the ice before continuing along the River
Deben path with the bed of reeds and frozen dykes looking a picture. There
were several birds spotting a Stone Chat first and then loads of waders in
the mud including some Knots, Lapwings, Red Shanks, Oyster Catchers,
Dunlins and a lone Curlew:) Reaching the stile with great views of the
delict house surrounded by snowy farmland as we turned left onto the very
muddy Tomlin Bank, seeing what we thought were several Fieldfares as there
are apparently loads here in Suffolk! We were surprised how wet and muddy
the path back to the golf club house as it so cold! Through the cliff top
car park still blocked off by snow and back to the van and home.
PS - Got one of the below pic on BBC Look East weather this evening,
believe it or not it includes Maggie my back model :)
